![]() When using the rotating antennas, unmodulated 9960 Hz subcarriers are sent to generate FM modulated signals. We require a Doppler shift because the aircraft bearing is exactly the type of signal modulation we require. Errors caused by electromagnetic noise and multipaths can be fatal in AM modulation. It creates an intentionally Doppler effect, so the reference must be placed on a central antenna in order to achieve this. Anti-clockwise scanning of the entire array is carried out by constantly switching on/off pairs of opposing antennas in the DVOR.
